Another week, another playlist. To celebrate our new blog design, we’re going to blast out some cover tunes. Next up the Best Cover Songs.

1. Killswitch Engage – Holy Diver (Dio)
This is how you do a cover! Make it sound like your band, but give a little salute to the original! I think this is the greatest cover of all time! Really well planned scream-vocals and metal-core riffs that compliment the song just the right way. I wish i could do something as amazing as this!
2. Johnny Cash – Hurt (NIN)
So much feel packed in one song. Johnny’s vocals are just amazing on this one. This song is still one of my favorites after all these years. I think this might be even better version than the original… I’d better hide now.
3. Limp Bizkit – Faith (George Michael)
Another good example of how to make a song sound like your own song. Durst ain’t really good singer but that chorus kicks some major-ass! Check out the really cool scratch solo in the end!
4. Me first and the Gimme Gimmes – Over The Rainbow
I wanted to mention this one first, although not because of the song but to introduce this group. The band has a bunch of albums filled with cover songs ranging from musicals to TV themes. In a classic punk rock style. I guess this could be called a supergroup, since the band has guys from such acts as Foo Fighters and Lagwagon. And as a cherry on top, Fat Mike of NOFX! Check the albums out to find some surprising covers!
5. Goldfinger – 99 Red Balloons
This really is one of the best cover songs ever made! Being one of the best songs of Goldfinger, the opening riff and the chorus kick some German ass. And if you’re wondering why that bottom is of that nationality, it’s because the original song is somehow related to that country.
6. Fuckface Unstoppable – All My Friends Are Dead (Turbonegro)
As you guys probably know, we shared the stage with the ultimate Bam Margera some time ago. I wasn’t expecting much from the musical side of his band. This particular song I heard first on Bam’s YouTube channel, and thought I was listening to the original Turbonegro version. But no, the rough kickass vocalist was actually Bam himself!
7. Four Year Strong – Semi Charmed Life (Third Eye Blind)
I don’t even remember ever hearing the original one but Semi Charmed Life is definitely the best song on Four Year Strong’s cover album Explains It All. In fact, it’s probably one of the best songs they’ve ever recorded. That seems to be the case with many cover versions. Who would record a bad cover, right? Ironic would’ve been another good pick from that album but since the original is pretty good as well and this one is ultimately better, I’ll go with this one.
8. Children Of Bodom – She Is Beautiful (Andrew W.K.)
Children Of Bodom has a lot of great cover songs. I could’ve picked Hellion or Somebody Put Something In My Drink but since we’re working somewhat under the Pop Punk umbrella I decided to go with Andrew W.K.’s She Is Beautiful. The original is great but somehow COB’s version is even better.
9. Muse – Feeling Good
I would’ve liked to pick Rise Against’s cover of Journey’s Any Way You Want It. It was a secret bonus song on their album Revolutions Per Minute. But since that song is not on Spotify I’m gonna save it as a bonus till the end of the post and go with the classic: Feeling Good by Muse. It’s a good song even if it is an obvious choice.
10. Private Line – Live Wire (Mötley Crüe)
I’ve been listening to Private Line since I saw them for the first time somewhere around 2005. They played Mötley Crüe’s Kick Start My Heart on that gig, which is absolutely the best song of Mötley Crüe. Sadly that song didn’t make it to their debut album 21st Century Pirates – they covered Live Wire instead.
11. All Time Low – Umbrella (Rihanna)
I realized that Umbrella is a great song when I heard this cover, they just made it sound so much ATL so it has to be awesome. Before I thought it would be impossible for guys to sing “come in to me” without feeling totally awkward. These guys busted that myth.
12. Backyard Babies – Babylon (Faster Pussycat)
This one is quite raw, but it’s still a great cover of the best song of Faster Pussycat. I’ve been a fan of Dregen for many years, and it’s definitely nice to hear his voice and guitar playing on this one. There’s also one awesome live version of this song in YouTube, where the bass is almost in tune… And there’s more, this song has also lyrics from the best cover ever: N.Y.C.C. – Fight For Your Right (To Party)!
Bonus: Rise Against – Any Way You Want It (Journey)
As promised here’s the bonus song of the week. This is definitely a great cover and might be that not too many people know about it since it is such a rarity.
So that’s it. What do you guys think? Did we leave something important out?
